During the COVID-19 lockdowns of 2020, everyone was stuck inside. I had just graduated from my MFA program and became obsessed with reports that “Murder Hornets” (Asian Giant Hornets) had come to the USA and were threatening domestic honeybees. I put together a ton of research, gathered a group of people, and we started writing a play via Zoom on October 13, 2020. It’s still in progress, and we had a staged reading on Octber 25, 2022. I found a black & white stock illustration of a bee and used it in the background I created for the website, the marketing materials we used to publicize the staged reading, and the on-site signage. We can laugh about it now, but it was such a big deal to us then to finally have a LIVE staged reading!
