Videos

Some videos of my work.

Empathy Bubble – my final MFA project. In March 2020, Columbia College Chicago entered lockdown, and my cohort was informed that we could submit a video or delay graduation until we could perform live. Everyone chose videos. I basically threw out my original concept, and turned in a mindset-snapshot of lockdown. I think we all got a little crazy.

My final presentation at Arthaus Berlin. I was playing with, “What if emotional injuries you feel on the inside, showed on the outside?”

Second-term art show at Arthaus Berlin.

Manifesto performance at the end of my first term at Arthaus Berlin.

“I’ll Cry Later” (film short) – A DVC Student film. Irish exchange student desperately tries to avoid being sent back to her home country. I played “Auntie Mireadh” with a questionable Irish accent. Directed by Dylan O’Connor.

“Suspicious Behavior” (film short) – A followed man discovers that there is more than meets the eye. I played a casting director. Directed by Shelly Russell, written and filmed in 6 hours at the MMTB Director’s Challenge.

“The Mole” (film short) – A DVC Student film. The Mole takes a standard movie situation and flips it on its ear. Brian, a rookie FBI Agent, agrees to go undercover with a ruthless gang. When a robbery goes bad, people start to wonder if there’s a mole among them. Things get uncomfortable quickly. I played “Joan.” Written and directed by Adam Dukovich.

About Dorian

Dorian Taylor is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago, Illinois, who uses devised/physical theatre, puppetry, spoken word, visual media, music, spatial soundscapes, and stagecraft to create original performance work.

Dorian is inspired by nature and our curious relationship with it: we are part of nature, yet we separate ourselves from it. Her work investigates connections between people and the natural world through lyrical interpretations of science. In a world where cutting-edge technologies and outdated myths divide us from nature, Dorian seeks to reunify us with it.

Dorian’s artistic influences include Jacques Lecoq (physical theatre), Thomas Prattki (devised theatre, embodied dramaturgy), Mummenschanz (physical theatre/mask), Complicité/THE ENCOUNTER (spatial audio), Jim Henson (edutainment, puppetry), Carolena Nericcio (improvisational choreography), and Davina Porter (voice acting).
